Folks of all ages enjoyed the Grand Opening celebration for the new Third
Street development complex last Thursday. The Hughson Community Resource
Center, made possible by a partnership between the United Samaritans Foundation,
Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors, and the City of Hughson comprises
Hughson Medical Office/Health Services Agency, Hughson Family Pharmacy,
Hughson Public Library, United Samaritans Foundation, Hughson Community
Center, Food Bank/Clothes Closet, and the Daily Bread Café.
Mayor Thom Crowder, acting as master of ceremonies, spoke with great
pride and since emotion about the "center of opportunity," his
love for the residents, and dedication to the city that was clearly evident
and inspiring. The Mayor then recognized many of those present who were
instrumental in making the Resource Center a realty. Among those saluted
were John Rogers, Reagan M. Wilson, Starret Kreissman, Bev Finley, June
Rogers, Cathee Vaughn, and newly elected councilman, Bart Conner.
Keynote speaker, Supervisor Thomas Mayfield congratulated the entire
community of Hughson for their amazing achievement. City Manager, David
Whiteside spoke with such feeling and eloquence that not only was it infectious,
but it created an atmosphere of camaraderie that carried throughout the
remainder of the evening.
