Fighting tobacco use

Efforts against tobacco use by Stanislaus County youths will get $150,000 from the state over the next year. The county Health Services Agency will use the money from the state Department of Health Services to continue work that began 12 years ago. The upcoming efforts include strengthening the law against tobacco sales to minors, asking movie theaters to ban smoking at entrances, and asking community groups to refuse money from tobacco companies. The Board of Supervisors this week accepted the $150,000, which will be spent between now and June 30. Funding is expected for two years after that.
