The shots are available at the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency's Public Health Department, 820 Scenic Drive, Modesto.

Cost is $10. Shots will be given from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday without an appointment.

Flu shots are strongly recommended for people 65 and older and those with chronic illnesses.

Other tips to help avoid the flu:

• Wash hands frequently.
• Don't share cups or utensils with others.
• Eat a balanced diet, and exercise.
