California is losing a true visionary with the announcement that Dr.
Richard Jackson is resigning as the state's top health officer.
Jackson, who previously worked at the national Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention in Atlanta, is a giant in his field. He came here with
ambitious plans to modernize the state's infectious disease labs, improve
preparedness for bioterrorism and lead an initiative to reduce childhood
obesity.
