While growing up in Modesto, Jorge Del Valle saw a need for physicians
who understand the health needs of Latino patients.
A $95,000 student loan repayment award from the California Medical Board
in 2004 enabled him to set up a practice as a primary care doctor.
And it's a carrot for keeping him here.
"This is helping me a lot — you have no idea," said Del
Valle, who treats patients at a Golden Valley Health Center on Sixth Street,
which serves many low-income residents.
