The Stanislaus County Area Agency on Aging and the Healthy Aging Association will conduct the annual Healthy Aging Summit on Oct. 13.

The free bilingual event, aimed at residents over 50, will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Modesto Centre Plaza, Ninth and K streets.

Organizers said last year's event drew 1,200 seniors and provided more than 1,600 free health screenings.

Health screenings provided this year include diabetes, stroke assessment, blood pressure, cholesterol, bone density and balance testing. Several senior resource providers will be available to share educational information on massage therapy, reflexology, senior retirement centers, long-term care options, Medicare, chiropractic options, legal help and more.

Attendees will be served a complimentary breakfast; volunteers will direct them to their desired screening areas.

Starting at 8 a.m., the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency will give free flu shots to Medicare recipients with part B insurance. A Medicare card is required. Other attendees can get a flu shot for $10.

Free transportation will be provided for seniors from Newman, Patterson and Grayson:

  • Newman — St. Joaquim's Catholic Church, 1121 Main St., 7 a.m.
  • Patterson — Patterson Circle, 7:20 a.m.
  • Grayson — Community Center, 8900 Laird St., 7:35 a.m.

Those needing transportation must make a reservation by Oct. 12 by calling 800-510-2020 or 558-8698.
