The Stanislaus County Area Agency on Aging and the Healthy
Aging Association will conduct the annual Healthy Aging
Summit on Oct. 13.
The free bilingual event, aimed at residents over 50, will
be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Modesto Centre Plaza, Ninth
and K streets.
Organizers said last year's event drew 1,200 seniors and
provided more than 1,600 free health screenings.
Health screenings provided this year include diabetes,
stroke assessment, blood pressure, cholesterol, bone density
and balance testing. Several senior resource providers will
be available to share educational information on massage
therapy, reflexology, senior retirement centers, long-term
care options, Medicare, chiropractic options, legal help
and more.
Attendees will be served a complimentary breakfast; volunteers
will direct them to their desired screening areas.
Starting at 8 a.m., the Stanislaus County Health Services
Agency will give free flu shots to Medicare recipients with
part B insurance. A Medicare card is required. Other attendees
can get a flu shot for $10.
Free transportation will be provided for seniors from Newman,
Patterson and Grayson:
- Newman — St. Joaquim's Catholic Church, 1121 Main
St., 7 a.m.
- Patterson — Patterson Circle, 7:20 a.m.
- Grayson — Community Center, 8900 Laird St., 7:35
a.m.
Those needing transportation must make a reservation by
Oct. 12 by calling 800-510-2020 or 558-8698.
