Officials dealt Stanislaus County medical marijuana supporters
two setbacks Tuesday, one by banning cannabis dispensaries
in Modesto and the other by postponing a program to issue
identification cards to patients.
The city and county votes follow the Sept. 27 federal Drug
Enforcement Administration raid on California Healthcare
Collective, a McHenry Avenue clinic that used to sell marijuana
to people with doctors' recommendations.
The Modesto City Council closed a loophole in a law it
passed 10 months ago to ban dispensaries.
