A top state health official is allowing flu vaccines containing mercury to be given to children under age 3. Kim Belshe, secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency, issued a temporary exemption to Assembly Bill 2943, which sought to safeguard young children against vaccines containing thimerosal, a preservative that contains mercury.
