California's tobacco users continued to support early childhood
development in Stanislaus County during the past year, to
the tune of $8.5million. The Stanislaus County Board of
Supervisors received a report on the funding Tuesday night.
The money comes from the 50-cent-per-pack tax on cigarettes
and other tobacco products approved by California voters
in 1998. It funds the Stanislaus County Children & Families
Commission, which is dedicated to "promoting the development
and well-being of children 0through 5," according to
the commission's Web site.
