A neighborhood put its $1.5 million Kaiser Permanente grant
to good use Thursday, in its first "Healthy Eating,
Active Living" event, aimed at getting low-income communities
to dump the junk food and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The West Modesto Neighborhood Collaborative, a nonprofit
organization that works toward improving the overall health
of the city's western communities, organized Thursday's
event, which featured food demonstrations, a martial arts
exhibition and other activities geared toward promoting
exercise.
