| The
winter flu season has arrived in Stanislaus County. And that can mean long
lines and crowded waiting rooms at local emergency departments.
If you or someone you know has the flu, here are some tips to remember
that may help you receive faster care:
- Call your primary care physician. They'll let you know whether you
can come in to their medical office to receive care.
- Call your health insurance company or nurse advice line to find out
if there are any measures that can be taken at home.
- Consider one of the local urgent care centers in your community. They
ordinarily have much shorter waiting times. You can find urgent care
centers listed in your telephone book yellow pages under emergency medical
services. You should check with your health insurance plan before going
to an urgent care center.
You can also access information on the flu at www.schsa.org . That's
the website for the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency. That's www.schsa.org.
Remember, urgent care centers can be a high quality and often much faster
alternative than going to the emergency room to receive care for the flu.

Health Services Agency.
