SHADE Teen Clinic Welcomes Pop Sensation Avril Lavigne To Modesto's State Theater

Stanislaus County – Who is the hottest young singer to hit the charts in the United States? Yes, indeed, another Canadian singer by the name of Avril Lavigne. Lavigne has been called “a skater-punk, a dynamic spirit and a wild child” who started wowing people with her voice at age 2. Her debut album “Let Go” was released in June and has already sold millions of copies and she was recently nominated for Billboard artist of the year.

The SHADE Teen Clinic, a non-profit provider of health services by teens for teens, is the major sponsor of the Friday, December 20 Avril Lavigne concert hosted by B93 radio at the State Theatre in downtown Modesto. SHADE Teen Clinic staff will be on-hand at the event to talk with attendees before and after the concert and to hand out educational materials in regard to teen pregnancy prevention.

Media Information

The event will start at noon with an outdoor vendor display on J Street in front of the State Theater (weather permitting) including the SHADE Teen Clinic staff. The vendor display is slated for noon – 4 p.m. SHADE staff will be available for interviews before and after the event. At 1:45 p.m. Avril Lavigne is scheduled to perform inside the State Theater. For concert visuals, concert promoters have stated that media will be allowed in the theater FOR AVRIL’S FIRST TWO SONGS ONLY and there is no flash photography.

The SHADE is a peer provider clinic, meaning that teens are providing reproductive health services to other teens. The clinic is part of the Health Services Agency of Stanislaus County. Total services that are provided by teen counselors, nurse practitioners and physicians include pregnancy testing and counseling, STD testing, birth control, reproductive health exams for females and males, outreach and educational presentations. Teen peer providers have been trained in all aspects of family planning and have been certified by the California Family Health Council as Family Planning Health Care Workers and by the California Wellness Foundation as Peer Provider Counselors. All the peer providers are students attending Modesto High School. The clinic is located at 401 Paradise Rd. in Modesto at the West Modesto Community Center.
