County - On Friday, March 21, 2003, the Stanislaus County Health
Services Agency (HSA) will begin implementation of Phase 1 smallpox vaccinations.
Public Health nurses will be vaccinating a volunteer health response team
who would go into action if a case of smallpox were identified in Stanislaus
County.

Photo opportunities will only be available between
8:15 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2003 at the Public
Health Building located at 830 Scenic Drive in Modesto. The three recipients
of the vaccine during this time period are representatives of the Stanislaus
County Sheriffs Department who are part of the Phase 1 team.
These are the actual smallpox vaccinations and this is not a training
session.
This timeline is firm and will be enforced
to allow the vaccinations to proceed with minimal disruption to the participants
and staff.
Phase 1 vaccinations are part of a national bio-defense smallpox vaccination
plan.
The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency (HSA) is an outpatient medical
system with 10 medical offices located throughout Stanislaus County. The
HSA operates the Public Health Department, an Urgent Care Center and multiple
programs serving over 500,000 patients and clients each year in Stanislaus
