Stanislaus County - On Friday, March 21, 2003, the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency (HSA) will begin implementation of Phase 1 smallpox vaccinations. Public Health nurses will be vaccinating a volunteer health response team who would go into action if a case of smallpox were identified in Stanislaus County.

Important media note:

Photo opportunities will only be available between 8:15 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2003 at the Public Health Building located at 830 Scenic Drive in Modesto. The three recipients of the vaccine during this time period are representatives of the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department who are part of the Phase 1 team.

These are the actual smallpox vaccinations and this is not a training session.

This timeline is firm and will be enforced to allow the vaccinations to proceed with minimal disruption to the participants and staff.

Phase 1 vaccinations are part of a national bio-defense smallpox vaccination plan.
