Stanislaus County West Nile Virus Task Force to host Town Hall Meeting

Stanislaus County – The Stanislaus County West Nile Virus Task Force will hold a town hall meeting to discuss the status of West Nile virus in Stanislaus County on August 11, 2004 at 4 p.m. in the Harvest Hall Multipurpose Room of the Stanislaus County Ag Center located at 3800 Cornucopia Way in west Modesto. The meeting is designed to give the general public current information on how agencies within Stanislaus County are responding to the disease and what the public can do to protect themselves and their families.

Seven panelists will make brief presentations on issues such as mosquitoes, health, animal and agricultural issues. Represented agencies at the meeting will include the Turlock and Eastside Mosquito Abatement Districts and the following Stanislaus County Departments: Health Services Agency, Department of Agriculture, Animal Services, Office of Education, Area Agency on Aging, and Environment Resources. A question and answer session will follow the presentations. The event will conclude with demonstrations of how the public can safely handle the disposal of dead birds.

On July 22, Stanislaus County officials received notice from the state that a mosquito pool had tested positive for West Nile virus. As of August 2, no dead birds in Stanislaus County have tested positive for the disease.

Stanislaus County residents can call the Stanislaus County West Nile Virus Hotline at 558-8425 for recorded information on West Nile virus.
