County – Lloyd Douglass, manager of the East Side Mosquito
Abatement District announced that weather conditions were very favorable
for the ground spraying effort that took place in Modesto this Wednesday
morning at 3 a.m. This week, weather has been favorable for each of the
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday sprayings. There is one final spraying planned
for Thursday morning at 3 a.m. That will end the first round of major ground
spraying efforts in Modesto.
Today, there will be a news release by 3 p.m. announcing the total mosquito
counts from traps placed before and after the spraying of the first zone
that was sprayed on Monday at 3 a.m. These mosquito counts will help to
judge the effectiveness of the spraying.
Thursday, there will be an announcement by 2 p.m. on the infection rate
of the mosquitoes that were captured as part of the Monday spraying. At
this time, mosquito district officials will then know the total count
of mosquitoes captured and how many of the captured mosquitoes were infected
with West Nile virus. This will assist officials with their decisions
on spraying.
